Walk Archie and Marbles they said…

Just a quick one as it was an experience that showed me how much my life might need to start changing and the planning that was involved with an outing might need.

When I came out of hospital, we had seen Jordan’s family and we decided to go for a dog walk with my Mum and her dog Marbles. Now, Marbles is a rescue dog and is some kind of American Pit Bull cross something and she is incredibly strong.

We had decided that we were going to go to an area in Norwich called the Dell which is enclosed as an area and we would be able to let both the dogs off the leads and have a bit of the relax and wouldn’t really have to walk them as such. We thought this would be good for me as it would be less stressing on the body. Also we were able to park right outside the Dell so very little walking. By this point I had only been out of hospital again for a day and so I was definitely being cautious.

Best laid plans and all that.

When we got to the Dell, Jordan and I arrived first and then there were some people doing an exercise class in the Dell. So then we had to change plans, and this involved walking to Heigham Park. This seemed like such a good idea at the time however I had totally underestimated how far away Heigham Park was from the Dell.

Once we met Mum, Marbles decided she REALLY wanted to play with Archie however Archie was not so keen on this idea and spent the whole walk from the Dell to Heigham Park running away from Marbles. And so the chase ensued.

So what ended up happening was Jordan had to take Marbles as she was too strong for my Mum. I mean I am saying that Jordan took Marbles for a walk…. Marbles was definitely in control of that one!

When we EVENTUALLY got to Heigham Park, 30 minutes later, we found an area for the dogs and stood while they played a little, had some water and we had a lovely time.

What I had not considered in all of this was that I needed to eat little and often and to drink lots of water as well. It was also basically in the midday sun at the time.

Having let the dogs have a bit of a play, we decided to walk back to the car. I was starting to not feel very well and getting quite anxious at the fact that there were no toilets nearby. I had overestimated what I was able to do and I was starting to flag. We had to walk all the way back to the car before I was able to get any water and I was flagging.

This became a moment when I realised that maybe I was going to have to realise that my body was not quite as well as it was before I went into hospital and before I was diagnosed. It made me realise that I was going to have to make some changes and be more in tune with what my body was telling me.

We had to hot foot it back to the car as I was not feeling well at which point I was able to have a drink at least. It was as we got home that the toilet attacks began and we lead to the next part of the trauma in my journey with Ulcerative Colitis
