After many weeks feeling like absolute poop (excuse the pun), extreme tiredness and all of those fun things started to hit me and I just had to get it all checked out. The Nutritionist had me do the Thriva Blood Test and it showed that I was massively lacking in Iron and also relatively low in B12. Both of these things are kind of critical for energy and so it was important that I took some supplements to help me along. The Nutritionist recommended a multivitamin, a B12 supplement, calcium and magnesium tablet, iron supplements and fish oil tablets which are full of omega 3. To start with, the nutritionist recommended a liquid multivitamin as it was more likely to be absorbed by my system. I have found the whole thing with supplements to be quite difficult. I found getting the timings of the vitamins difficult to start with, then I was at work and it was difficult to fit everything in around working in residential care. To help me out, we changed the multivitamin to a tablet as well and it was a lot easier. I still have to be organised and make sure that I have them ready to take for the day. I take them around lunchtime so there is a definite point in my day that I take them at which helps me. Since coming off Ciclosporin its helped even more as I don’t have to worry about them reacting with my medication.
I have found that they have helped my energy levels greatly though it is another thing to remember. I recommend getting a test of your nutrient levels if you have just been through anything like I went through. It’s so important to know where your body is at and to be able to help it along. I think I plan to redo the tests in a couple of months to see if I can stop taking the supplements but I guess I need to check that with the Nutritionist. I’ll add it to the to do list…
