AHHH so exciting!! I am FINALLY off Ciclosporin. After being on my Adalimumab injections for a minimum of 8 weeks (4 injections, though I think I ended up doing 5) I spoke with the IBD Team and asked when I could come off Ciclosporin. I wanted to see whether the Adalimumab was really working as well as I thought it was, without the help of Ciclosporin. As a bonus it means that I wont have to have weekly blood tests anymore (tick that off my list of things to do!).
I was told to reduce my Ciclosporin slowly, meaning that I dropped to 100mg for a week (from 125mg) and then to 50mg for 5 days before coming off them completely.
While I was incredibly excited to start coming off them, it was also incredibly nerve wracking. Ciclosporin was the first medication that really worked to get my Ulcerative Colitis under control and letting go of that lifeline was scary however I knew that I needed to do it!
So far, so good (excuse me while I quickly run away and touch all the wood available in my house.) I have managed to successfully come off Ciclosporin and only be on Adalimumab without seeing any issues! It is such a relief. I will keep you updated of course but pray for me, I need all the help that I can get.
