So I have already done one blog that’s kind of about the ‘woes’ of having a stoma for me, but this is one of the other major problems that I ended up having.
As I probably talked about before, I had a major recovery from the wound created by the surgery. I had a major wound in my belly button, which was all sorts of nasty and took a while to recover from. I now have a rather large scar in my belly button and I thought that this was going to be the end of it. Oh, how wrong I was.
I noticed a bit of pain in my belly button while I was at work one day but I kind of ignored it, assuming that I had just caught it in my jeans a little bit wrong. Within a few days there was a rather unpleasant smell from my belly button, it was weeping and it hurt quite a lot.
I went to the doctor and she said that I seemed to have an infection in my belly button and there was a smaller ulcerated (are we seeing a pattern) patch along the scarring. The doctor took a swab from it, gave me a cream which it seemed was to do a bit of everything, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, steroid cream and told me to put it on.
I did this and it seemed to heal up pretty quickly without receiving the swab result back. When I eventually did get the swab back, I ended up having a course of antibiotics as well to help treat an underlying infection.
In comparison to many of the things I have had happen this was seriously minor so I barely thought about it! Prompt treatment was the right way to go.
