Something that Mum and I threaten and rarely seem to manage is to go on a spa day together BUT with me being off work and Mum being recently retired we managed to jump in between the lockdowns and go to a spa for a day and an evening. We went to a place called Stoke by Nayland Golf Club and Spa and it was so lovely. Mum and I don’t manage to get away very often, and after everything that happened, getting away was really lovely. It was just about far enough away from home to feel like we had been on holiday, but not too far to travel.
When we arrived, we weren’t quite able to check in but we went for our first treatment which was a facial. Mum and I went into separate rooms for the treatments and had slightly different ones. It was absolutely lush. I came out of it feeling refreshed, I even managed to have a little nap in the middle of the facial! We regrouped after the facial and checked into our room. We had a suite and it was amazing! A double bed and a sofa bed as well (which was surprisingly comfortable), felt like we were living the life. We had initially planned to have a swim after our first treatment, but we were both feeling so relaxed and so tired, that we had another nap!
Our second treatment was a massage and it was a really long treatment. I honestly felt so relaxed it was quite remarkable. I had another nap (seems I needed some sleep) and came out of it feeling quite dozy.
After both of our treatments we went for a lovely 3 course meal. I was a bit worried about the eating part of it, but they were very considerate of the things that I couldn’t eat. We asked for some bubbles and a cocktail to drink and they made us the cocktail specially (has to be a pornstar martini). The food was gorgeous and I even risked it and had pudding. I was so lucky that I didn’t even have a mini flare up and oh my it was so worth it. Mum and I got ever so slightly tipsy and pottered up to bed after a wonderful evening.
Keeping company with my mum is something that I have learnt to appreciate more and more as I have got older and I truly appreciate every moment I get to spend with her. Having some special mother/daughter time was so important to me.
The next morning we went for a lovely walk in the grounds and decided to take a drive to Debden. It’s a funky little town with some places to look around and so we took our time there, and got some funky gifts for friends and family. We popped to a little farm shop and got some lunch (and more gifts) and then we drove back home.
We had such a good time, and I was so relaxed afterwards, we will have to do it again some time!
If you want a good spa experience then I would highly recommend Stoke-By-Nayland Gold Club and Spa!
