Rugby is back! And boy am I happy to see it.
Due to COVID 19 we didn’t manage to finish our season which was both a relief and devastating. The league had not gone to plan and we have been relegated (not going to lie, kind of ok with this) BUT we were into the final in the cup! We never got to play the cup final which was kind of devastating as winning would have been a good way to end a difficult season but ho hum, we hung up our boots in March (I believe) and it wasn’t until July that we got to lace them back up and go to Barnard Fields for training.
We had to be very careful, we were separated into groups of six, had to ensure we kept 2 metres away from each other but going back to rugby was honestly one of the best feelings I have had all year.
Being back on the pitch, with my friends and the rather odd shaped ball felt freeing. I may have been less fit than I was at the end of the season, but getting to hang out with people outside my initial ‘bubble’, to run around and practice a sport that I truly love? It was incredible.
We are now fully back into training, and we have been allowed to start playing small sided games of touch. There are still restrictions in place with numbers, and we are not allowed to do any proper contact yet, however we are hitting the fitness hard, working on our handling and just waiting for the RFU to allow to play smashy smashy rugby again.
RFU, us Forwards are over here, hating the running and wanting the smashy smashy… any day now would be wonderful…
