So as I wrote about, I have had a number of medications relating to my Ulcerative Colitis. When I came out of hospital I was on steroids (Prednisone) and an immunosuppressant (Ciclosporin). As my steroids decreased, I was then put on Azathioprine which is another immunosuppressant. For a bit I was just on Ciclosporin and Azathioprine and it was hoped that I would be able to decrease Ciclosporin and just be on Azathioprine as my maintenance medication.
However
Me being me reacted to the Azathioprine before we started reducing the Ciclosporin. I was incredibly itchy (a story for another blog post) and so I had to stop the Azathioprine, which was incredibly worrying. I was lucky though as I was then suggested to start a biologic based medicine called Adalimumab.
Adalimumab will be an injection that i give myself every two weeks and aims to keep the symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis at bay and keep a person in remission.
I start that on 2nd September… so I will have to let you know how that goes!Â
I think you are under playing the worries you must have had about how your body has reacted to these medications. It must have been a worrying time for you?
