Hospital Pharmacy vs Doctors Pharmacy

I seem to spend a lot of time on here complaining in some way about the care I am receiving so I feel the need to caveat it slightly. I fully understand that the NHS is under a lot of pressure always and that this is increased with COVID.

So when I left the hospital, I was prescribed Ciclosporin and Prednisone from the hospital. This was prescribed from the hospital pharmacy. I went home with a huge bag of medication and told to call the IBD Team when I needed more. It took a while the get to that point but I called the IBD Team when I was running low and I was told that I needed to call my doctor and they would prescribe the necessary medication.

So I called my doctor who prescribed the Prednisone to me, but told me that I couldn’t have the Ciclosporin prescribed to me by the doctors and that it had to come from the hospital.

So I called he IBD Team and told them what the doctors surgery had said. The first time, the hospital prescribed the Ciclosporin.

However for the many times after that I had to have the same argument again and again and again. The IBD Team never believe me when I tell them that the doctors will not prescribe me Ciclosporin and so we have a to and fro between me and the hospital and me and the doctors, then eventually they talk to each other and agree that the hospital is going to prescribe them.

I know this sounds so so minor, but it is so frustrating that I have to do this every time I need new medication. It would be helpful if it was noted somewhere that i cannot order from my doctors. Would save me a lot of time and effort…

Whine done for now. Though I am sure that there will be more…
