Well, what to say now

So I haven’t written properly in a while, and I guess maybe that is because there wasn’t a lot to talk about? Or maybe I was just denying the fact that I had Ulcerative Colitis and wanting to ignore its existence? Who knows, but there is definitely an update now!

On December 27th, I started having symptoms of a flare up, increased blood as well as abdominal pain. I did as instructed and called the IBD team who put me on a steroid foam and a suppository to try and stop the flare before it really took a hold. This wasnt strong enough and soon enough I was put on a lose dose steroid called Budesonide. Budesonide has fewer side effects and it was hoped it would work quickly on my colitis but no such luck.

On 25th January 2021, I had to come to hospital as the flare was simply out of control.

Being admitted to hospital was scary and everything, I was hooked up to steroids and a drip and painkillers, we went through the torture of trying to find a decent site for blood tests and cannulation again and I was sad. There is no other way to put it.

It quickly became clear that the flare was not coming under control and we started to discuss the options that were ahead of me. The options effectively revolved around having surgery. More about that next time…
